‘If you would let Me…’

The world has a million definitions for everything; including Love. I don’t believe in those definitions. I don’t like them. I don’t like that Love is just one of those words being thrown about.  I think they’re superficial, they’re shallow, they’re selfish, they’re controlling, they are just not the real deal.

‘Love is a give and take affair’,(in the most negative way, of course!) they say. So you can only love a person depending on how much they show that they love you.

“Love is ‘compromise'”, they say.(I put compromise in “” because it’s actually the sin of compromise!) So you find people always getting into a relationship saying, ‘if you really loved me,you would do this and that for me’. ‘you’d be more affectionate’, ‘you’d go to this party with me tonight’, ‘you’d come over tonight’, ‘you’d understand that the church thing is just not for me’…)

So we come to God with these little definitions of love and we replace these crappy definitions with what God’s love actually is!

If it’s not emulating Jesus and His works, it’s simply not love. Love is the sacrifice, the selflessness, the forgiveness, … The Bible says in 1 John 3:16, This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.(NIV). We are busy spending so much time keeping up with the world that we are stuck with the “heart-warming romance type of Christianity.”  So we’re just watching people walk away saying they “just don’t feel it any more”.  ‘I don’t feel like worshipping’, ‘I don’t feel like praying’. It’s either that or  some type of “denominational doctrinal Christianity ” where “we don’t do it this way or that way in my church.”  Our little minds are preoccupied with everything else but who Jesus is!

There are 3 distinct groups of people that I have come to know. Those who have seen the works of The Lord and are desperate for more of Him every second. Some, however, are not sure how to have more of Him. There are those who desire to know Him but are still situated in their past so much so that they don’t feel that God can or will forgive them; they are ‘too sinful’, ‘they’ve been too bad’. And then there are those, who, they really just don’t care. Christianity is quite boring and routine, they feel.

I’m writing to the second part of the first group of people today; those who are desperate for Him every second of their lives but are not sure exactly how to have more of Jesus and then those who feel ‘too sinful’ for Jesus to want to have anything to do with them. Can I just start by saying, it is not for you to decide whether or not Jesus wants anything to do with you. He died for you, OF COURSE He wants everything to do with you! He wants every part of you to be His!

You can’t experience more of Jesus without giving more of yourself, without letting go. It’s as simple as that. It’s because of how much time we spend studying the world’s definition of love that we feel this way!  This is a man, the Creator of the universe and every single thing in it, who shouldn’t be caring if a bunch of people  don’t want to respect Him because after all it’s to their own detriment. But Ephesians 1:4 says, ‘For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight.’

Then the devil came in thinking he was so smart when he managed to deceive the first Adam and the woman. So God had to fix what was broken (He always does :)) because the forever plan is to make us holy and blameless in His sight. So in Ephesians 1:5, the Bible tells us, ‘In love Heb predestined us for adoption to sonshipc through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. The final sentence is what gets me so excited! …‘in accordance with God’s pleasure and His will!’ It brings Him  so much joy to know that we remain holy and blameless before Him and that’s His will for us! In other words, He wouldn’t have it any other way!  So wherever, however, whenever we have done wrong, Jesus came and He put his name there, He bore our sins so that we are never to blame!

So if you’re telling me that you’re having a hard time believing that Jesus can forgive you for what you did in the past, that’s you telling me that you’re having a hard time believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross! That’s saying that the message of salvation is not true!… and that’s major! That would compel me to ask you if we’re talking about the same Jesus here! Because the Jesus I know, He died so we can live!

In Ezekiel 33:11, you can actually hear the desperation in the Lord’s voice when He says ‘As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness, O people of Israel! Why should you die?’

That’s all He wants!

God is desperately in love with us humans! So much so that His primary jealousy stems from the fact that human beings do not acknowledge Him as God. (Deut. 6:12-15, Romans 1:18-32)

Tell me how you are too sinful for such a man to work with? He dealt with EVERY POSSIBLE HUMAN AFFLICTION, he bore it, he endured it,not because He felt like laying aside his majesty to have a feel of pain.(Mathew 26:36-39 proves that He actually wasn’t feeling it) But because that’s what it took for you to stand BLAMELESSLY before your accuser, the enemy! Because that’s what it takes for Him to call you His, FOREVER! (don’t you just love that word? :D)  That’s love! That’s who my Jesus is! That’s what i strive to be!

Picture someone drowning, the life guard is already in the business of saving those drowning and all it takes for the lifeguard to find yet another drowning person is for the person to, if possible, stick out the tiniest bit of any part of their body. That’s all Jesus needs from you. This time around, the tiniest bit of any part of your body is your desire. What if the lifeguard comes, and you’re so caught up kicking and shoving and all of those things? He’s here now, let go and let him rescue you. The world is that ocean, drowning you with a million things! But you be bold enough to tell yourself, if only I can stick out the tiniest bit of my finger even, Jesus will know i’m ready! Like the life guard, He’s already pursuing you! And when He comes, let go. There’s a reason why He’s the lifeguard. He the best in the saving business. 🙂

When I decided to be bold enough to walk away from the this world and give this Jesus guy a try, there were days when I would take an almost 2 hour drive all the way from campus to my home, because I needed alone time with God. A million people have opinions and they’re 99.45% not helpful. (Don’t get me wrong; opinions matter, they’re just not always what’s best for you) I wanted to talk to someone who knows me best and can and will understand me. I wanted to hear that one voice. No human being qualified, so I would drive home just to cry out to God and ask Him to hold my hand. Sometimes I would ask for a hug. There were days when I didn’t feel like He hugged me, there were days when I didn’t feel like He held my hand, not because He wasn’t listening, but because I was so busy still holding on to stuff, I wouldn’t even notice the one I’d come to was actually there with me! And then when I learned to let go and tune in to Him, I started to feel the tight grip on my hands that I asked for, I felt the arms around me, so comforting that I can’t explain. It was magical! It kept me going! I was experiencing something so real and so true as the days went by, I began to see the world and its offerings more and more for what they really are! Fleeting! I wanted FOREVER, I wanted ALWAYS!

I once listened to a preaching by a pastor who said the devil knows he failed to take you away from Jesus when He came down to die for you, so his next plan is to convince you that the redemption plan does not include you! Please don’t make the devil have the silly mentality that he has managed to win with you! “Show the devil why he tried to mess with the wrong general!” That’s actually what the Lord told me once when he realized that the devil was trying to cripple me with fear. It has been my motivation behind everything! And that’s why I share it with YOU today.  Show him that he can go through the fruitless eternal journey (he has nothing else to do anyways) of garnishing the things of this world just so they seem attractive to you, but YOU ARE BOLD ENOUGH to walk away from it and walk straight into the arms of the father because Excellence, Beauty and Royalty is your inheritance.

I really love this scripture from Zechariah Chapter 3. Here …

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan[a] standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! TheLord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.”

Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.”

Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of theLord stood by.

The angel of the Lord gave this charge to Joshua: “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.

“‘Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch. See, the stone I have set in front of Joshua! There are seven eyes[b] on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will remove the sin of this land in a single day.

10 “‘In that day each of you will invite your neighbor to sit under your vine and fig tree,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
