Are we that impressive?

Everyday i find myself learning something new and making changes. I am learning that some goodbyes are necessary for as long as there’s negativity in our lives. And I am learning to see everything in a divine and eternal perspective. My friend Amda and I have this thing we do; everytime she sees me doing something, from the meaningless scribbling I do at the back of my notebook when I’m sleepy in class to the million times I pick up my phone to bbm or whatsApp or simply sms, she’ll ask; “is it eternal?” lol! i mean we find ourselves laughing at each other because sometimes I find it ridiculous! But really, there IS a great need for that question in everything we do. We need to use the simplest things to serve as a check on ourselves. On Thursday, i was handed with one of the most important tasks in my life! and my uuhh, leader, if i should say?, she told me with the others, “so from now, you need to be on point in everything that you do.” Being on point in EVERYTHING!!” See the more you get handed with honorable tasks, the more people you have watching your every step. Some people genuinely want to learn from you! Others? they simply want to note the slightest wrong and use it against you. And to me, i don’t see anything wrong with it! It only urges us to live such that our lives will be a challenge to others! So in one way or another, we need these people! Because if not for them, 1Peter 2:12 wouldn’t hold! Don’t give people the chance to ask the “and-you-call-yourself a-christian” or “is-that-what-you-learn -in the Bible” type of questions! 1Peter 2Verse 12 says ” Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.” I love the Message version, it says “Live an exemplary life among the natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices”. Because it uses natives, we know the Bible isn’t specifically saying those who don’t believe in God. Because technically anyone who does not acknowledge God and his word, is an unbeliever (but let’s get into that :))
Live such that, regardless of what/ who you have done/been in the past, your life will “silence them and their foolish accusations!” (1Peter 2Verse 15)
Because as Christians, we are that city on the hilltop, that stands out, and everybody can see us! We are the salt of the earth! And what good is salt if it lost its flavor? (Mathew 5:13-14).So let’s give them a reason to come and see why this particular city stands out on the hilltop.
I have a 5 year old niece, and she literally wants to do everything that i do! so then I know that she’s definitely imitating the wrong i do too! In any event, she’ll say “Nana taught me”. That makes me a role model now. For that reason I need to do more than what the “other guys” do. As Christians, we are told to imitate Christ. Thus someone who is imitating us, should be imitating the Christ in us! and that’s just it! I was talking with my neighbor the other day, and i was soo mad, so i said something about never doing any good deed for the person who offended me. Then he said something i’m never going to forget. He said “you have to take that back Nana. because you are a christian right? and because i’m learning from you. so you have to take that back.” He got me right there!  For him to say that, was just humbling. But more importantly, it was a “you are not being on point in everything” rub in my face! ……. You’ll just never know who desires to learn from you. You’ll be amazed!
At church today, the preacher told us about how we as Christians, the light of the world, are supposed to determine where the world must go. After all, isn’t that the whole point of light? Who walks in the night with their flashlight behind them? Mathew 5:20 says; “Unless you do far better than the Pharisees in the matters of right living, you won’t know the first thing about entering the kingdom.”. The New Living Translation says ” “BUT I WARN YOU—UNLESS YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS IS BETTER THAN THE TEACHERS OF THE RELIGIOUS LAW AND THE PHARISEES,YOU WILL NEVER ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN!” (P.S the exclamation sign is in the Bible as well! :))
We can’t afford to NOT be on point!
God Bless Us All 🙂
